Explorer Scouts Chevy Camaro

What happens when you get a group of 14 to 21 year old guys around a spare 5th-gen Camaro chassis and some extremely high-performance goodies? Well you get really excited young men known as the Explorer Scouts. The scouts are out of the Boy Scouts of America’s “Learning for Life” program and are part of the UAW Local 160/GM Tech Center Explorer Scout program. The program focuses around teaching young adults about careers in the auto industry and in the process, they got to personally build the Camaro of their dreams under the guidance of some of GM’s best and brightest – this time winning 1st place in their class at Detroit Autorama in the process.

Chevy HHR SS Out

It’s been quite a ride for the HHR SS. Introduced as a 2008 model late in 2007, the HHR SS was the first taste enthusiasts had of the potent turbocharged LNF powerplant outside of a roadster in the SKY/Solstice. Finally, 260hp of turbocharged 4-cylinder ECOtec power turned a retro-grocery getter into a serious drag strip competitor. Not only was the performance bottom line improved to help the HHR nameplate lay waste to the naysayers but the HHR SS also received a facelift with a new aggressive front and rear fascias, 18-inch wheels and a lower ride-height with help from a revised race-tuned suspension that kept the HHR SS firmly planted to the road during its record 8:43 lap around the Nurburgring Nordschleife - this certainly wasn’t your grandma’s station wagon.

ECOtec I4 VVT

Nope, that’s not a typo. GM is serious about the ECOtec platform and they’re showing it in a big way – by committing $494 million dollars towards the development of the next line of fuel efficient and performance producing ECOtec engines. That’s some big news and needless to say, we’re pretty stoked about. The funds will primarily be used towards building upon the ECOtec’s industry-leading direct injection, variable valve timing and turbocharging technologies.

Cruze Cup

It looks like the Cruze is getting more and more attention these days as it makes its way across the pond to US showrooms later this year. The latest highlight we caught wind of is exactly the kind of attention we like to see for the next Chevy Tuner car with it being announced that the Cruze would be receiving its own racing series dubbed the “Cruze Cup”.
