Cast aluminum is great option for a production performance engine as an aluminum piston has a lighter weight than a conventional steel piston. This lighter weight translates into less reciprocating mass inside of the engine and helps increase efficiency and enhances the performance of the engine as the engine builds revs. However, when you’re looking to really crank the boost up and put the insane power down, you simply can’t beat the strength that a forged aluminum piston delivers. This is where Wiseco comes in.
Wiseco has a long heritage of performance and racing and you’ll find their pistons inside the engines of many of the top racers in all types of racing. They’ve come in to the ECOtec market to deliver what seems to be a great piston kit designed specifically for the DI LNF motor. How is a DI piston different than a regular port injection piston though? Well, DI pistons need to have a specially designed pocket that helps the fuel atomize and create the proper flame that gives DI engines the extra power and fuel efficiency they are known for. These pistons from Wiseco have a specially designed bowl for exactly that and coupled with some deep value reliefs, these pistons look like the real deal.
The Wiseco LNF piston kit comes with everything you’ll need to slap these into your LNF too. Each kit includes nitride steel rings, pins, clips and the best part, all pistons come with Wiseco’s ArmorGlide skirt coating that reduces friction and overall wear. All pistons comes with a 9.2:1 compression ratio which is perfect for really upping the boost and not having to worry about knock. If you’re looking to bore out your LNF, Wiseco offers an 88mm piston or for guys happy with the stock bore, a stock 86 and 86.50 size is also available. We’re thinking a set of these and a GT35 – yeah, that’d be nice.
