The plan is this: take a stock V6 Camaro, add a pair of turbos via a modified STS turbo kit, rebuild the bottom end of the engine with stronger internals, fit a Baer big brake kit and add a set of Pedders coil-overs to the mix. This setup should make the V6 produce around 500hp and at that power level, the power-to-weight advantage will be in the Camaro’s favor. This isn’t a drag race though – good thing for the GT-R as the tranny probably wouldn’t hold up – so just making big power isn’t the only goal here. Since this race will be taking place at the 73-turn, 12.9 mile long Nürburgring Nordschleife, the performance of both the suspension and braking components will weigh heavily on the ultimate outcome.
Making sure to cover off on all bases, East Texas Muscle Cars is going to bring both their supped up Camaro and a GT-R to the ‘Ring to race head-to-head. Which makes sense with all the controversy surrounding the GT-R’s ‘Ring times and their validity or lack thereof. Either way we’ll be excited to see just what ETMC can pull out of the V6 Camaro and how close they can come to their GT-R benchmark.
