So what will you have to fork over for this essential modification to your Cobalt? As we released earlier, the official part number for the Stage 1 kit will be 19212670 and as such, the Cobalt Stage 1 kit will officially follow in-line with the rest of the “LNF Turbo Upgrade Kits” and be priced at $650 USD. As most of you know, Tom at CrateEngineDepot.com is giving a great discount to anyone with 550 bucks. As a price point comparison to the LSJ Stage Kits, the LNF Stage 1 stands at a drastic decrease in cost per power increase. The LSJ Stage 1, MSRP of $512, delivered 25hp more than the factory rating of 205hp. As any LSJ owner knows though, this author being one, the LSJ made 215 wheel horsepower from the factory so it was really only a 15hp increase that came via an increased redline from 6500 to 7000rpm. So in order to make use of your newfound power with the LSJ stage 1, you had to really wind out the gears – compare that to the LNF Stage 1 and it’s like lamb and tuna fish.
The LNF Stage 1 kit on the other hand delivers the goods from 2000rpm all the way to redline. No compromises here, just healthy power increases throughout the powerband. So let’s compare apples to apples here, Stage 1, LNF vs. LSJ. With the LSJ you’re getting 15hp to the wheels and 0 torque for $512. Not terrible, but not groundbreaking. The new fuel injectors from the Stage 1 kit also paved the way for a smaller pulley down the road so not a bad deal at the end of the day. Now the LNF Stage 1. This kit comes in with an increase of 20hp and 60lb.-ft of torque for only $550! In case it’s not obvious let me tell you, 60 more lb.-ft of torque sure knows how to motivate 2926 pounds of Cobalt. Add to that the 20 extra horsepower the kit includes and you’re moving. Here’s a GMTS secret too, we’ve heard that if you toss on a complete aftermarket intake (cold side piping to charge air filter) you’ll instantly pick up the extra 15hp that the Stage 2 kit will bring you and maybe plus some. You may want to look at OTTPerformance.com for that as we’ve had some great experience with them in the past and they make some top-notch quality parts.
So there you have it. Sorry LSJ guys, the LNF Stage 1 kit takes the win light here and with the LNF Stage 1 kit installed, we’re sure we’ll see tons of Cobalts taking the win light at their local track. More news as it comes – only here at GMTS!
