Corvette Racing Goes Green

No one cares about fuel mileage in racing. You can’t be concerned about saving fuel when top speed and finishing first is the name of the game right? Wrong! The Corvette Racing team is showing everyone, first hand, how increasing efficiencies in the simplest ways can make sure that the maximum amount of asphalt-melting horsepower meets the ground. Traditional racing methodology says that this logic is convoluted and counterintuitive but not so says the brain trust at Corvette Racing.

In case you don’t know, the Corvette Racing mantra is “never give up.” This bleeds through into every aspect of the program and is very evident in the advances the team is making in improving efficiencies across the entire Corvette race car. Everything from low viscosity synthetic oil and ceramic suspension bearings to HID headlamps helps makes the best use of every single horsepower the engine produces. This means less pit stops at long races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring which means more time out on the track and ultimately more time on top of the podium.

See exactly what Corvette Racing is doing to keep their cars ahead of the competition in their latest video below. It’s episode 4 of an on-going series from the team that is very well produced and well worth the 3:47 of your day.

Does your car have ultra-low rolling resistance tires or is it filled with low viscosity synthetic motor oil? Let us know if you’ve already adopted any of these speed-enhancing and wallet-saving techniques in the comments below.

Don't forget that if they wanted, they could also put in a smaller fuel cell which means less weight, more speed & acceleration, but possibly the same number of pit stops...
