Drifting Meets BMX

Video - Drifting Meets BMX

Drifting is the fastest growing motorsport in the world and for good reason, it packs horsepower, hot cars and of course wrecks all into one sport. Drifting is also an interesting sport as it’s the only motorsport where the finish line doesn't determine the winner. Instead, like many extreme sports nowadays, it’s judged by a panel of experts but with one small caveat. Drifting has a little extra help from some gear onboard each vehicle that determines the angle, lateral G and speed to determine the relative complexity of each drift. This helps judges determine close matches with actual data to back up their rankings.

This relationship of being a judged competition has intrigued some BMX Pros like Chad Kagy, Scotty Cranmer and Daniel Dhers. So much so that they went out to a practice session before Round 3 of the Formula D event just to see what all the hoopla was all about. When the trifecta arrived at Wall Speedway, they got a little more than they bargained for however and actually got the opportunity to strap in to some pro drifters vehicles. We couldn't have picked a better group of drifters to show these BMX pros what drifting is all about either, as they were guided through the ropes by all-stars Ryan Tuerck, Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Chris Forsberg - the latter two don't drive GM vehicles but we'll forgive them because they’re both pretty cool guys.

After they finished distributing scrap rubber around Wall Speedway, they headed over to a local bike park to get a taste of how the other side lives. The group was kind enough to have a video crew tag along for the adventure and then the folks at Gardella Racing took that footage, edited it and threw the 10-minute synopsis up on the web. That video is embedded right below for your viewing pleasure.
