ECOtec Racing!

2008 is here, which means another year of racing, winning and setting records for the GM Race Teams powered by ECOtec! What’s that you’re saying? If you’re questioning the muscle of GM Sport Compact Racing, just take a look at what we’ve done in the past.

Just recently, we were working on a project and asked GM Racing's Carmen Smith for some basic statistics on our race teams. We were all blown away and really excited by what she found.

Check it out:

2007 Event Wins:

  • 10 of 10 NHRA Pro FWD Wins â€“ A Cobalt Sweep!! -€“ Jason Hunt (3), Marty Ladwig (3) and Gary Gardella (4)
  • 7 of 8 NDRA Pro Outlaw FWD Wins -€“ Jason Hunt (5), Gary Gardella (2)
  • 7 of 8 NDRA Pro Extreme Wins - Don Nase, Jr.
  • 2 of 5 NHRA S/C Quick16 East Wins - Brian Ballard
  • 4 of 8 NDRA Turbo Street Wins -€“ Brian Ballard

Records:

  • 7.15 seconds, 202.79 mph -€“ Gary Gardella, NHRA S/C Pro FWD (quickest and fastest fwd 4-cylinder)
  • 7.401 seconds, 202.03 mph -€“ Gary Gardella, NDRA Pro Outlaw FWD
  • 6.417 seconds, 211.76 mph -€“ Don Nase, Jr., NDRA Pro Extreme (quickest and fastest four cylinder)
  • 9.403 seconds - Brian Ballard - NDRA Turbo Street (we do not have the mph record. Others have gone quicker, but have not set a nationally sanctioned record.)

* We were the first fwd 4 cylinder to exceed 200mph in the quarter mile. To date, no one else has done it.

* We were the first Hod Rod into the sevens.

* Gary Gardella's run of 7.565 seconds @ 185.85 mph is the quickest for any production uni-body fwd (this was his previous car).

Championships:

  • NHRA Pro FWD - 2003 (Hoyos), 2004 (Hoyos), 2007 (Gardella)
  • NHRA Hot Rod  - 2003 (Ladwig), 2004 (Ladwig)
  • NDRA Pro Outlaw FWD  - 2005 (Hunt), 2006 (Hunt), 2007 (Hunt)
  • NDRA Pro 4 Cylinder  - 2005 (Gardella)
  • NDRA Pro Extreme  - 2006 (Nase), 2007 (Nase)
  • NDRA Turbo Street  - 2006 (Ballard), 2007 (Ballard)
  • NHRA Quick16 East  - 2007 (Ballard)

It's exciting to see the progression that GM has made in Sport Compact Drag Racing. We are all very proud of our teams and are looking forward to a HUGE year in 2008! Stay tuned to GMTunerSource.com for more info on our teams and how things are shaping up for 2008!

If history is a guide to what the future may hold, we are set for another winning race season!
