Out of the ashes, or a napkin rather, one skull design emerged that was destined to become the unofficial mascot of the Corvette Racing program and all who are involved in it. The tale goes like this. Designer Eddie Jabbour was at a 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 2004 and noticed the team's affection for skulls as their symbol. He immediately grabbed the closest piece of parchment next to him, which just so happen to be in the form of a cocktail napkin, and drew the Corvette flag and followed it up by outlining a skull around it: "Jake" was born.
Jake held small cameo roles on different places on the Corvette C6.R racecar since 2005 until he got his big break during the final 2007 American Le Mans Series race. For the last race taking place at Laguna Seca, the Corvette Racing team decided to pay homage to Jake and plastered him across the hood and body of the both C6.R racecars in what would become an instant fan favorite Corvette design. Jake continues his reign over the Corvette Racing team and has a special spot on every C6.R racecar. The "Take No Prisoners" attitude, that Jake's presence evokes, continues to inspire the Corvette team, and warn its competition, during each and every race. To carry Jake's attitude to the baddest production Corvette ever, the ZR1, GM Designers did something special and added Jake to the lid of the ZR1's air box so that all ZR1 owners can feel like part of the Corvette Racing team.
The team here at GMTunerSource.com loves this spirit of competition and drive to win. We thought the story was cool, and wanted to share where Jake came from. We have noticed a few people asking about it and thought we would bring you the background on him.
