We're very excited for Jason Hunt, who secured his third consecutive NOPI Pro Outlaw Front Wheel Drive championship with his CSI MATCO TOOLS Chevy Cobalt. This is a great accomplishment for the team, as they had to fend off their fiercest competitor, Gary Gardella, in his Team Chevy Cobalt.
"We are very pleased to bring another championship home for MATCO TOOLS, GM Racing, Roush Racing, Mobil 1, K & N Filters, Borg Warner Turbo Systems, NGK, Mickey Thompson Tires, MSD, PCS, Torco Race Fuels and NOS Energy Drinks," Hunt said. "Thank you to everyone who has supported us and cheered for us."
"We are only halfway through the race season as we compete in two series, so there is plenty of racing still left in the year."
Team owner and crew chief, Charles Schafer, said the championship was a team effort.
"Our schedule is crazy and all the team members did a fantastic job keeping this car going round after round," Schafer said. Jason pulls double duty at the race track by tuning both cars and then getting in to drive.
"Between all the races, the school visits we do, the personal appearances and displays, this means a lot to the team to repeat championships."
The team will be heading next to Maryland International Raceway for their final NOPI event, where Brian Ballard, in the K & N Filters Chevy Cobalt, will race to keep his points lead and hopefully finish the year with his fourth consecutive championship.
Jason Hunt currently holds the points lead in NHRA competition by a slim 5 points going into this weekends NHRA event in Indianapolis, IN where teammate Ballard has already secured the Quick 16 East Coast Championship.
