Cruze gets its own racing series with Cruze Cup

It looks like the Cruze is getting more and more attention these days as it makes its way across the pond to US showrooms later this year. The latest highlight we caught wind of is exactly the kind of attention we like to see for the next Chevy Tuner car with it being announced that the Cruze would be receiving its own racing series dubbed the “Cruze Cup”.

The series will feature vehicles that a bit more tame than the awe-inspiring WTCC Cruze models but will undoubtedly be a fun series to follow as it will show how a stock Cruze with some mild tuning can handle a real racing environment. The Cruzes aren’t far off from production sans the necessary safety equipment for racing. All Cruze Cup cars feature the same 1.8 liter ECOtec at 10.5:1 compression that comes standard from the factory which lays down 141hp and 130 lb.-ft and is fitted with a 5-speed transmission.

The fun parts come mostly in suspension as Cruzes destined for the Cup will receive KW suspension, Rimstock whels and Dunlop slicks. Since all vehicles will be to spec come race time this will be a pure driver series but it will be fun to see what the Cruze can do around some of Europe’s challenging tracks. The first race is on the 10th/11th of April and will take place at Rockingham, Northants.
