LNF Stage 1 Warranty Information

LNF Warranty Information

After we announced that the Stage 1 kit for the Cobalt SS was out and the mad dash began, we started getting comments, emails and phone calls from people upset about how the Stage 1 kit voids their factory warranty. GM HPVO would never put you out like that and we here at GMTS would never lead you to water only to shoot you when you started to drink. Rest assured the Stage 1 kit for the LNF is in full compliance with your factory warranty and we’ve worked with GM HPVO to make sure your dealers know what’s up as well. A special bulletin has been issued that you can reference to your dealer to help satisfy any warranty concerns which you can find after the break.

The bulletin numbers referenced here can be accessed by any dealer and will officially inform them that the kit is a warranty compliant upgrade. Currently, the bulletins available are only for the HHR SS, Solstice GXP and Sky Redline but the Cobalt SS one is coming out in a matter of days. The bulletins covering the aforementioned vehicles are #ACC09-004 and #ACC08-039. Once the number for the Cobalt SS is out we will update all of those owners here with that number. In addition, once that bulletin is out, there will be a separate notice to all dealers telling them about the bulletin. For all dealers requiring proof of warranty in writing, this bulletin will serve as that proof in writing.

Thanks to everyone for sending us your experiences and concerns and for letting us and the guys at GM fix them for you so that you can have a happy Stage 1 experience!

I was one of those unlucky individuals. My nearest dealer just stopped calling me back and would not return any of my phone calls in reguards to the kit. I contacted another dealer and sent him all the information I could find on the kit and was again brushed off. Low and behold I found a member on an HHR forums who worked at a dealer within decent driving distance who had installed several kits and knows all the ins and outs. He couldn't understand why the dealers I contacted were brushing me off. Install scheduled for Thursday!!

Man, I know what you're feeling. My dealer did the flash and called me two hours later and asked me to pick it up. Drove home 20 miles and happy with new found performance. Car sat for two days without driving(I don't drive it every day). Drove it with a notable stumble but not bad. Drove second day to work engine light came on and barely made it to dealership. Called yesturday 11/8/09 said they were puzzled, so I'm not sure what's going to come of my wantabe stage 1.

oops, error on comment about date. Left early bird at dealership on 11/9/09 in evening. Called yesturday and said working to find problem. Still no word today, 9/11/09. The reflash for stage 1 was done 11/5/09 in AM.

Oh well, dealership just called and said that the ECU was bad and had to order a new one. So I don't know if they will be able to upgrade this one or not and also whether I will now be stuck with cost of new part and labor. Man what a fiasco.

Seems like some dealers are still uninformed, and when you do inform them they don't want to help. I installed the kit myself yesterday and took my car to the dealer I normally use for service this morning to get the new flash. I've talked to them about the stage kit several times recently before I did the install (which I did myself because they estimated 3 to 4 hours labor) and they said they would do the new flash no problem. But today after I dropped the car off they called and said they will not do it. They don't want to get involved because they don't want to mess something up. That word apparently came right from the dealership owner.

I was disappointed but I called around and found another dealer who will do the flash, so I'm headed there this afternoon. Oh, and I'm going to inquire about the TSB (09126) for the charge air inlet duct detachment issue because my VIN seems to be involved and even though that problem hasn't happened to me yet, it's probably good to get it taken care of with the extra boost from the stage kit.

Update: got the new flash from the other dealer with no trouble, and I couldn't be happier! Normal driving feels great and WOT feels totally new. It's a blast to be able to break the tires loose in 2nd gear at will!

Thanks for a well-engineered product, and I'm eagerly awaiting any future (street-legal, warranty-retaining) upgrades!

I'm in Ottawa Canada and took my kit into the dealer on Monday. They charged me 2 hours labour and no problems or questions whatsoever. They had previously done an HHR, and weren't in the least concerned about the job. I use the car as my daily driver and it runs like a dream with the upgrade.

Update:

Got kit installed at a dealership who has installed several kits and couldn't be happier. 2nd gear is worthless like first gear was stock and 3rd gear likes 2 to use 2 lanes. Used to RWD and the tail getting loose so gotta get used to the FWD torque steer.

Hello Again, Happy for good news that I'm up and running again with STAGE 1 Power. I have to say my dealer went above and beyond...
I don't know if they replaced my ECM or not but they got it done with no trip to the checkout, just get in and drive. It seems my situation was unique because the engine light took so long to come on. I drove 20 miles with not problems but the engine started stumbling at cruising speed. Engine light came on after second day and down hill from there. Maybe the calibration did'nt take too well as has occured in some HHR's from what I've read. But whatever, this is well worth the effort because if You get Stage 1 You will be impressed. I think anything that takes an effor is well worth it in the long run because everyone learns from it. The Cobalt SS T/C is a car guy's car.

Is there a way we could have a certificate in .PDF form that can be printed out. Would be nice to have a hard copy to keep in out cars so when a dealer threatens to void our warrenty we can present that to them so they can put their foot in their mouth. My local dealer was a hugh pain in the rear trying to get them educated on the kit. Now that it is installed by another dealer would like some documentation to present to them just in case they feel so inclined to shake things up.
