Cobalt LNF Turbo Upgrade Update – July 20th
Written by Corey Mullane Monday, 20 July 2009
The voice of the Cobalt community is being heard inside GM! The team in charge of the Cobalt LNF Turbo Upgrade has seen the comments left on the Petition post and have been working tirelessly to deliver a kit that will meet all the demands and expectations left by all of the owners there. We’ve been doing our fair share of hootin’ and hollerin’ over here saying that this kit will let you dominate the streets, make mince meat out of your competition, etc and we’re just glad that the folks at GM aren’t going to make us eat our words.
So without further ado, we have received the first official dyno numbers and we thought you guys would love to have this update. The official numbers for the Cobalt SS LNF Turbo upgrade Stage 1 kit will stand at 280hp and 320lb.-ft of torque. That’s right, this ain’t no weaksauce kit. That’s an increase of over 60lb.-ft of torque! For you math geeks, that equals out to a 23% increase in torque. A quick search of the interwebs was conducted upon receiving these numbers and we couldn’t find one factory or aftermarket company that can deliver those kinds of numbers with JUST a tune. Add to that the full factory backing from GM and if this isn’t a no brainer modification then cover me in honey and send me off to the farm. After we stopped dancing upon seeing the graph for the first time, we took a more analytical approach to reading it and found out there were some added benefits in this kit as well. Peak power comes earlier, at 4700rpm instead of 5300 and the torque band stays fat almost throughout the entire powerband. This means less turbo-lag and more getting down to business. You wanted more power, well it’s obvious here you are going to have your full share of it – and this is only Stage 1. The factory learn-down is also removed with this kit so everyone with exhaust, etc will be seeing some added gains. We compared this upgrade to the LSJ kit and there seems to be some major advantages already with this upgrade over the LSJ kit.
As you can probably see, we’re as giddy as bunch of school girls right now and we can’t wait to see what the Stage 2 graph will look like with the added intake. As of right now we’re still out on release date and pricing info but once we can lock that down, it will be promptly posted. Enjoy the dyno chart!
UPDATE: The LNF kit and all GM horsepower ratings are crank horsepower.
UPDATE 7/22: New chart is posted with the correct RPM values.

I would say that GMPP has not only done a great job here, but they have done a GREAT job! We are as excited as you are for what we are seeing here. Glad to see many of you are extremely happy as you should be.
Beastybalt - does this help now? Hope it gives you all the warm and fuzzies again.
We are continuing to search for more info and as we get it - you will be the first to know.

Uh...I'm pretty sure Trifecta is making more power than that with just a tune. Warranty is another issue however.

IMO, the aftermarket tunes are able to give you more horsepower, but with no warrenty?? If you have the money cool.. and awsome for you, but others have to work hard for their $$$ and have families. This is a VERY awsome thing. This much HP/TQ with a full warrenty. Also, more talk of later upgrades?? Seriously.. just give it some time, and we will be up with the other aftermarket tuners.
Aftermarket parts followed up with a tune is another story.

09lnfblk, the graph shows that you will even have a little more than the rated 260 tq at 2000, which is the max now. so there will not be a point where the pre-tune car will feel like it has more power than the post-tune car.Thats what I was hoping I keep looking at the torgue curve
I just hope the car keeps its drivablity. smooth no agressive spikes in power or dead spots. Write comment
