Cobalt LNF Turbo Upgrade Update – July 29th
Written by Corey Mullane Wednesday, 29 July 2009
In GMTS's effort to keep a constant vigil surrounding any and all news we receive about the upcoming LNF Turbo Upgrade Kit, we bring you a small update with some timelines of production plans. While no official release date has announced for the Cobalt SS Turbo Stage 1 Kit because of CARB certification timeliness, we can begin to speculate that date with the help of the following information.
All calibration work has been finished on the Stage 1 kit and all necessary paper work has been submitted to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for certification as you all know. The CARB timing is such that the certification process could be as fast as 30 days with the average time for certification occurring between 60 and 90 days. With the current state of affairs in California though, we’re not taking any bets. On the GM side of things, once the Executive Order (EO) is issued from CARB there will be a two week lead time to get the emission certification sticker, which will be included with the upgrade, updated with the number and ready to be put into kits to go out to owners nationwide.
Stage 1 is almost here - we can taste the rubber. As a purely speculative release date based on the info we received, it looks like we're looking at a mid-September release date but it still sits in the hands of CARB. We also apologize for the lack of an official release date; we are at the mercy of another party but once GM receives final from CARB this kit will be moved out the doors very quickly. GM wants to put this kit into Cobalt SS owner's hands immediately and with processes outside of GM being responsible for the kits actual release date, it would be unfair to choose an arbitrary release date that would possibly hold up the kit for release if things over in CA move along faster than anticipated.
As always, we'll bring you all of the latest information regarding the LNF Upgrade Kit as it happens.

Because many other states use california emission standards. until it gets approved by CARB GM can't sell it to almost half of the US market.

Thanks again GMTS!! These updates are all that are keeping me sane. Its definitely uplifting to have something new to read every once and a while. You guys rock!

If not, theres gonna be alot of pissed off Cobalt owners !
...
and if GM is so sure that this kit will get CARB approval, why not release it to those states that do not use california emission standards?
i'm still going to wait for my turbo-back + intake because theres no reason to get it until the dealers are able to order the kit.

Since the cobalt is forever out of production now, GM may just drop this as it costs them $$$ to get kit out for Cobalt owners, GM would still lose money on this kit even if they sold a few thousand of them.

elease a kit that will not make some reasonable hp.....I've seen people buy AEM CAI kirs and Hahn CAI kits for their turbo balts and seen them on the dyno, they don't really make more than about 3-4 hp... so GM needs to leave the CAI out of this and be done with it... The most powerful SS turbos in the U.S. are running stock air box........ So 'am I.
