Cobalt LNF Turbo Upgrade Update – July 31

News

LNF Turbo Upgrade Kit July 31

It's all Cobalt all the time here lately at GMTS! Well we just received a small update and in our true form of releasing info as soon as we get it in, here we go. It comes direct from deep inside as we now have confirmation that there is a Cobalt LNF running around town with the infamous stage 1 kit on it. We just got a call from a friend that was driving the car and pulled over on the side of the road and he seemed a little out of breath.

He was having way too much fun in the seat and his enthusiasm was exciting to hear. "The Cobalt owners are in for a big surprise with this kit," he said as he caught his breath. "It's like an entirely different car." We tried to yank as much info as we could out of him but he just had a simple update for us before he got back to wringing out the newly upgraded Stage 1 Cobalt SS. The update was that the Cobalt Stage 1 kit will carry a part a number of 19212670.

That number may seem familiar and it should. It’s the p/n assigned to all of the other LNF Upgrade Kits, which you could now deem as Stage 1's we guess. When you get to the dealer and tell them that p/n, they'll match it up with your vehicle and pull the correct tune out of the system for your car. No worries either, the system is such that the tech installing the kit can't put the wrong tune in your car.

We were also told that once the certification process is completed, the instructions will be sent out right away. At that point, we'll post them up here for everyone to download. When you see that document up here, that's when you'll know that the kit is available at your dealer. Of course we'll have more updates as we get them in.

The great news is we are getting closer and things are starting to move. We are excited to be able to give you some nice news for the weekend and you can rest assured that we will be digging for more for the early part of next week. Have a great weekend everyone!

Exciteing news, but less horsepower should cost less. Hopefully they will adjust price accordingly. My question is how long we looking at for the stage 2, after all thats whats gonna set us apart from the others.

If they priced the car according to horse power the ZO 7 Vette would cost more than a Lamborghini. Get serious!

Is there any way to confirm that you actually have the correct part number? If you are correct, can't the dealer order it right now, get the HHR/Solstice/Sky parts and then you will be ready for the tune to be released when the certification is done? It looks to me that the hardware is the same part number for all kits and the tune is the only thing that is different. Can we order away!?!

Not unless the pricing is different, which it must be if they haven't told us yet. That would be nice if we could but I have a feeling it might be out very soon! Think you can squeeze any more info out of them alpha!?

CrateEngineDepot.com has confirmed you can buy the Solstice/Sky/HHR kit then take your car in for tune when it is released. So buy through them and get all the parts now. Once the new tune is in the GM system just go to the dealer for install.

umrdyldo...did you talk to Tom? Does he know FOR SURE that it is EXACTLY the same? Will the cost be the same or are we taking a risk by ordering it right now...?

yea i dont want to make any mistakes with this thing. if it will be cheaper and work out that's one thing but i hope this wont complicate anything.

Interesting.

What happened to the GM intake that was going to be part of the stage 1 kit for the Cobalt SS? Will that now be part of an upcoming stage 2 kit as originally planned, or is the intake now being simply scrapped because "GM Engineering was not satisfied with the test results", either performance or emission wise, or could it be due to cuts in the GM performance division?

Also, while 280HP is a nice bump, why does the HHR SS kit continue to deliver additional HP at higher revs, peaking at 290HP on what is essentially the same engine, clutch, and transmission as the Cobalt SS? Is this due to emission requirements being less stringent on the "SUV" HHR vs. the Coupe/Sedan Cobalt, or is it perhaps due to the torque levels being altered for drivability reasons?

I am still very interested in GMPP Stage kits for my Cobalt SS, but definitely have some questions I'd like to see answered.

One thing I find interesting, however, is that if you check http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/after...126-25.pdf , you will see that it seems that CARB already approved the kit for the 2008 Cobalt SS. I'm not sure why they would have to resubmit for the 2009. Anyway, happy to see it coming soon...
