First Corvette ZR1 Totaled
Written by Corey Mullane Wednesday, 07 October 2009
Yup, it's finally happened - someone has sentenced a ZR1 to the scrap head by mangling the $110,000 supercar into a wall at Watkins Glen this past weekend. At first sight of the carnage you're thinking "I've been had, that's a C6.R not a ZR1!" But look a little closer and you can tell that the case here is not one of trickery but rather that of a diehard Corvette Racing fan that wanted to adorn his newest purchase with something in honor of the Corvette Racing team. That tribute came in the form of last year's "Jake" paint scheme that was created for the season-ending race at Laguna Seca where the Corvette Racing guys came out a lot better than this particular Corvette did.
We are going to caution you - if you are a Corvette fan, or just an aficionado of fine automobiles, these pictures aren't easy to look at and may create feelings or rage, anger or sadness inside of you. From the wreckage pictures it appears this ZR1 wasn't just sporting factory equipment while out on track either. A quick glance at the images and we see aftermarket wheels, a racing steering wheel along with a safety switch panel in place of the factory infotainment unit so we know this wasn't just a case of some kid stealing his dad's shiny new ZR1 and going for a joyride. Oh well, at least this ZR1 died doing what it loved right?
Special thanks to Cody Ace for the piktars. He was out at Watkins Glen with his 240 when he busted out his camera to get these heartbreaking images. Thanks Cody!
